No EDGE Is Perfect

Normally, this is where I would post my first activity plan and how it went with the kids. However, I encountered some pretty major detours that I thought I should cover now rather than later.

First of all, prior to signing up for EDGE, I cleared it with the Kids' Group facilitator and the volunteer supervisor that I do this as my project. They were thrilled to have someone else around to plan activities and said yes. Just before Spring Break, I checked back in with the facilitator to make sure I could still plan and run the meeting this Wednesday. WELL, little did I know, over Spring Break a lot of unforeseen changes took place, and I was not told about any of them. The current facilitator is now being phased out in favor of a new facilitator who was not told about my EDGE project - she is a volunteer just like me. Along with this change, CCWCC wants volunteers to start planning activities like I am doing so I have to share the responsibility with not just the facilitator but the whole group helping.

Because of all this, I showed up on Wednesday with an example project in my hand, only to find out another had been planned over it. After a minute of chaos, my activity was pushed back two weeks (normally it would be one, but I am out of town next week) and I had to explain my whole situation over again.

I was able to set up a Google Doc calendar so we will be able to coordinate activities better, and hopefully allow me to still get my project finished. Luckily, I already have the twenty lesson plans, I just need to implement them. I am wondering if I can count them if I let other volunteers run my idea. Otherwise, I will still be working on this project past graduation.

Anyway, that was frustrating, but a growing experience, I hope.

See you in two weeks with the activity,

Megan
