The Summer Dip

Sorry about the break in posting. Finals were crazy and I took a quick summer vacation last week, but I am back and ready to punch out this EDGE project!

There's only one small problem: summer. Since school is out, there are fewer volunteers and fewer kids in attendance at Kids' Group. As an example, this Wednesday, one of the volunteers had planned a readers' theater activity and set up a stage. However, when only two little girls arrived, we had to scramble for an activity they could do. They ended up spending the night working on crafts.

Now we are starting a backup plan. Each week, there will be two activities planned: the primary planned one, and a backup. If the backup is not used, it becomes the primary activity for the next week. As such, I think I will have more opportunities to use my planned activities.

Speaking of which, here is an activity for you: makeshift noisemakers, using emptied (and cleaned) plastic water bottles, craft supplies, and noisy, rattly items that fit in a bottle. This requires relatively few supplies. Including the water bottles, most of them can be found in the house: rice, dried beans, marbles, pompoms, glitter. There is no set turn out for this project. Simply open the bottle, let the kids fill it as they please, glue shut if desired, and let them decorate the outside.
