This week was so great. There were some new developments for Kids' Group. Due to changes in the building and reorganization, we hold the activities in a new, cramped room. We were very squished with five volunteers and three kids, especially with a table in the middle and two cushioned chairs that were a part of the room's decor.

We had quite a variety within the three children that came this Wednesday though. There was a girl and two boys. Two were children and one was a baby. Unfortunately, the baby was sleepy and not interested in playing with paint. He had a good time cuddling with various volunteers and occasionally throwing blocks though.

For the activity, I planned to do a craft. Using their hands, the kids trace out a "tree" on brown construction paper. This can also be done by tracing hands directly on the white canvas and filling in with brown paint. To save mess, we use the former method. The "trees" were then glued onto the white canvas and the kids used old pencil erasers to dot on the leaves. Both boy and girl loved the activity and had fun making their trees. Below is depicted the example tree I made with the help of a little girl.

I think it is important to have activities appropriate for both girls and boys. It is easy to pick a simple craft or choose to play with blocks. Because of how our society socializes children, boys and girls prefer to play different games and do different things. Although I wish it wasn't so, it is important to consider when planning activities. Luckily, this craft was fun for both genders present at the activity.
