Pie in the Face!

Unfortunately I had to skip last week's activities due to sickness. However, this week was great and fun enough for two.
Instead of a volunteer picking the activity this week, some of the kids that attend did. It was really cool to see them take ownership of the group for a night. They brought the game "Pie Face" and we provided whipped cream. The kids took turns twisting the handles to see if they would get a face full of whipped cream.
It definitely made a mess. We had to cover the floor and the kids in table covers. I definitely underestimated how much children love whipped cream. After the game was over, we had to get out plates and spoons so they could eat even more. I am sure their parents were less than thrilled when they picked up their sugar-high children at the end of the night.
A few weeks here and there now we have begun to get younger children (one- and two-years-old). So some of our activities have had to be modified to keep them entertained as well. This led me to think of an easily adaptable activity plan that we could use: play-dough charades. The older children can make their clues out of play-dough so their team can guess the prompt while the younger kids just play with the dough.
Honestly I thought by now it would be harder to come up with activity plans, but because the children that come are so variable in age and gender, I am constantly presented with new challenges and ideas. It's great. I'm going to miss this place.
